World Accreditation Day 9 June 2020 – IIOA members highlight food safety

7 June 2020 was the second World Food Safety Day, with the theme of ‘Food safety, everyone’s business’, recognising the people who help keep food safe, from growers, to processors, distributors, auditors, retailers – all parts of the food chain.

World Accreditation Day on 9 June 2020 backs up World Food Safety Day with its theme of  ‘Accreditation improving food safety’. IIOA Chief Executive Marcus Long discusses the roles of IAF and GFSI as key elements in the food safety infrastruture.

IIOA members offer certification under a number of standards and schemes. These include:

  • BRC Global Standards is a leading safety and quality certification programme, used by over 20,000 certificated suppliers in 90 countries.
  • FSSC 22000 incorporates the requirements of ISO 22000 and PAS 220 (replaced by ISO 22002-1) in one certification scheme for the certification of food manufacturers.
  • Global G.A.P. is the world’s leading farm assurance programme.
  • IFS covers a range of globally applied standards in Food, Logistics, Household and Personal Care, Broker and Cash & Carry/Wholesale.
  • ISO 22000 The ISO 22000 family of International Standards addresses food safety management.
  • SQF food safety scheme administered by the Food Marketing Institute.
  • GFSI – One of the Global Food Safety Initiative’s key activities is the benchmarking and recognition of food certification schemes, providing another level of assurance for consumers, retailers and other stakeholders.
