World Food Safety Day

7 June 2019 is the first ever World Food Safety Day, with the aim to show food safety as ‘everyone’s business’.

World Food Safety Day is a collaboration between the World Health Organisation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), having been adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018. Food Safety is one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and WHO Assistant Director-General, Healthier Populations Naoko Yamamoto and FAO Assistant Director-General Agriculture and Consumer Protection Bukar Tijani explain its importance.

Certification and assurance services have evolved and continue to evolve to support farmers, farm suppliers, transporters, processors, distributors and retailers deliver safe food to consumers.
